According to sources today, Delhi police have detained six people for their alleged participation in the smuggling of munitions before Independence Day.

They stated that 2,251 live cartridges in all were found in their hands.

The suspects were taken into custody in the national capital's Anand Vihar neighborhood along with two bags of ammunition.

The package was intended to be delivered to Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh, according to Vikramjit Singh, Assistant Commissioner of Police for Eastern Range. He also said that the authorities had not completely ruled out a terror connection to the case.

"One of the six people who have been detained so far is from Dehradun. He runs a store that sells firearms. At first glance, everything seems to be carried out via a criminal network. Police, though, are not in charging out a terror angle," Mr Singh said.

As India prepares for the Independence Day celebrations on August 15, security has been heightened around the national capital.

Police have increased patrols and vehicle inspections.

According to the police, tight security measures have been put in place at all key locations in Delhi, including marketplaces, airports, train stations, and metro stations.

According to officials, hotels, parking lots, and restaurants are being scrutinized, and a verification drive is being conducted on tenants and servants.

"Over 10,000 police officers will be working on Independence Day in various capacities throughout the Red Fort and the roads leading to the event. For the day, we have created perfect and reliable security measures "According to the source, Dependra Pathak, special commissioner of police (law and order), was quoted.
