UK approves Moderna's Omicron-specific Covid booster

British health authorities stated on Monday that the UK has become the first nation to approve a so-called "bivalent" COVID vaccine that targets both the original strain of COVID-19 and the more recent Omicron version. The Moderna vaccine was approved by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) as a "sharpened instrument" against the new coronavirus after it was determined to meet its requirements of safety, quality, and effectiveness. According to the regulator, half of the booster dose of the "Spikevax bivalent Original/Omicron" vaccine (25 micrograms) is directed against the original viral strain from 2020 and the other half is directed at Omicron. "I am happy to announce that the Moderna bivalent booster vaccination has been approved in the clinical trial to provide a strong immune response against the Omicron BA.1 variant as well as the original 2020 strain,” said MHRA Chief Executive Dr June Raine. Monkeypox: Govt to hold meeting today

The Center has called a conference of leading medical professionals for Thursday because the threat of monkeypox is growing and a new strategy is urgently needed. L. Covid hike: 5 deaths, 2,000 plus cases in 24 hours in Delhi

In Delhi, the number of coronavirus positive tests and daily Covid cases has gradually increased over the past week. On Wednesday, Delhi recorded 2,073 new cases and five deaths attributed to the coronavirus, with the positive rate remaining above 10% for the third day in a row. It reached an all-time high of 11.64 percent on January 24 when it was 11.79 percent. With the additional infections on Wednesday, the number of Covid cases and deaths in the national capital reached 19,60,172 and 26,321, respectively. Data from the health department stated that 17,815 tests were performed the day before to find COVID-19. In the past week, the city's daily Covid cases and positive rate have both gradually increased. On Tuesday, Delhi reported 1,506 Covid instances, three fatalities, and a test positivity percentage of 10.69%. The positive rate was 11.41 percent the day before. On June 26, there were 1,891 instances reported in the capital. On Sunday, Delhi reported 1,263 COVID-19 cases, with a 9.35 percent positive rate. The city recorded 1,333 instances the day before, with an 8.39% positivity rate, and three fatal cases of the viral illness. On Friday, there were 1,245 cases of Covid in the city, with a positive rate of 7.36 percent and one fatality.
