Covid hike: 5 deaths, 2,000 plus cases in 24 hours in Delhi

In Delhi, the number of coronavirus positive tests and daily Covid cases has gradually increased over the past week.

On Wednesday, Delhi recorded 2,073 new cases and five deaths attributed to the coronavirus, with the positive rate remaining above 10% for the third day in a row. It reached an all-time high of 11.64 percent on January 24 when it was 11.79 percent.

With the additional infections on Wednesday, the number of Covid cases and deaths in the national capital reached 19,60,172 and 26,321, respectively. Data from the health department stated that 17,815 tests were performed the day before to find COVID-19.

In the past week, the city's daily Covid cases and positive rate have both gradually increased. On Tuesday, Delhi reported 1,506 Covid instances, three fatalities, and a test positivity percentage of 10.69%. The positive rate was 11.41 percent the day before.

On June 26, there were 1,891 instances reported in the capital.

On Sunday, Delhi reported 1,263 COVID-19 cases, with a 9.35 percent positive rate. The city recorded 1,333 instances the day before, with an 8.39% positivity rate, and three fatal cases of the viral illness.

On Friday, there were 1,245 cases of Covid in the city, with a positive rate of 7.36 percent and one fatality. On Thursday, it had 1,128 cases with a positive rate of 6.56 percent and no known deaths.

There are currently 5,637 active cases in Delhi, up from 5,006 the day before. Up to 3214 Covid patients are being isolated at home.

Only 376 of the 9,405 beds set aside in various Delhi hospitals for coronavirus patients were filled on Wednesday. According to the most recent report, beds at Covid care centers and Covid health centers were empty.

Currently, there are 183 containment zones throughout the city, it continued.

Delhi has recorded a small number of cases of the extremely contagious Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 sub-variants which are highly transmissible. 

During the third wave of the pandemic, the daily COVID-19 cases in Delhi reached a record high of 28,867 on January 13 of this year. On January 14, the city had a positive rate of 30.6%, which was the highest at the time of the pandemic's third wave.
