Shakib Al Hasan, the most prominent cricket player in Bangladesh, has stirred up controversy once more as the cricket association of the nation prepares to look into an alleged social media post from him praising a bookmaker. Shakib was previously given a one-year suspension by the ICC in 2019 for allegedly failing to report a fraudulent approach from an Indian bookmaker. The facilitation and promotion of any gambling-related activities are prohibited by Bangladeshi legislation.
The BCB will look into the all-recent rounder's social media post touting his connection with "Betwinner News," per a Cricbuzz report.
Shakib, a veteran of nearly 400 international matches with more than 12,000 runs and nearly 650 wickets, will be given a show-cause notice, according to BCB president Nazmul Hassan. Two things are present. First of all, there is no likelihood of getting our consent because we won't grant it. The website cites Nazmul as saying, "If there is anything associated to betting, we won't issue any approval. "That indicates that he did not request our approval. Second, we need to confirm whether he actually executed a contract or not. On Thursday, BCB held a meeting where the choice was made with regards to investigating his social media post.
"The topic was brought up in the meeting, and we argued that it couldn't possibly happen. If it occurs, ask him right away. The board won't permit it, so serve him with a notice and ask him what happened. If it involves gambling, we won't permit it. That's what we said today," Nazmul continued.
Nazmul pledged to do a thorough investigation because it involves the law of the country. "First, we need to understand what he did. This (betting-related actions) is illegal and against the law in this country, not only in cricket. This is a major problem. We must conduct our own research rather than relying on Facebook postings or similar methods. When it is true, then board will take necessary steps," he concluded.
