According to police, three people are accused of gang raping a 16-year-old girl in Kerala's Thrissur district. All of the accused, according to the police, were friends of her father.
The incident was revealed on Monday at a counselling session at a school. Police were notified by the school right away, and one of the suspects was taken into custody.
The girl, a student of class 12, told police that after telling her mother about the assault, she did not file a complaint. Police suspected her father was a drug dealer, and they accuse him of frequenting his home to gather the contraband while taking advantage of the circumstance.
Medical examinations confirmed the assault, according to a senior police officer who wanted to remain unnamed, and the girl will be moved to a safer location.
He claimed that the alleged act was committed two months ago and was repeated numerous times after that. According to him, after thoroughly questioning the parents, police would also file a case against them.
The two remaining suspects will soon be arrested, according to the police, who have some leads on them.
Police have been asked for a report on the incident by the state commission for child welfare.
